ABSTRACT:
Agrarian unrest and farmer indebtedness are major socio-economic challenges in India, leading to suicides, migration, and social instability in rural areas. This research investigates the role of social work interventions in mitigating these challenges, focusing on financial literacy, psychosocial support, community mobilization, and policy advocacy. A mixed-methods approach was employed, including structured surveys of 120 indebted farmer households, focus group discussions (FGDs) with farmer cooperatives, and key informant interviews with NGO workers and local government officials in Bastar district. Findings indicate that social work strategies enhance financial awareness, strengthen coping mechanisms, and promote community solidarity, but gaps remain in access to credit, grievance redressal, and institutional support. The study recommends integrating social work-led financial counselling, livelihood diversification, and participatory farmer forums to address systemic issues effectively.
