ABSTRACT:
Water deficit and water surplus were calculated tor eleven stations of Raipur district by the method developed by Thornthwaite and Mather. Water deficit and water surplus values were then used to calculatemoistureindices (1 ms) which form the basts. I determining climatic types. Analysis for the period 1951-80 indicates that water defiat, exceeds water surplus in the whole district As revealed by average 1 ms major part of the district has dry subhumid climate. But two small sections-one in the north west and the other in the southeastexperiencesemi arid conditions.Variations in annual 1 ms mdicate that the climatic conditions in the district usually fluctuate between semi arid and moist subhumid.
