Abstract: In this paper an attempt has been made to show
the effect of mother tongue on English while learning it as another language.
This study is limited to the level of VII class students of Orissa.
At this stage the students of Orissa have five years of learning experience
in English as another language.
The study pin-ponts those aspects of mother toungue effect on learning
English which are commonly found in the
students of that area. Therefore, the study could be of special value for the
teachers in English and the makers of
curriculum of the same.
